Chakra is Sanskrit (oldest writing language) for “wheel” or “vortex”. Our bodies are comprised by seven major chakras, energy centers, that house the life force that we are. Scientists have measured their existence and found that the electromagnetic emanations can be detected as far as 26 feet from the physical body. Even though chakras are not physical, they are experienced in the physical bodies. An imbalanced chakra will show up in the body as physical, mental or emotional challenges. Chakras may be used as portals to healing, prosperity and happiness.
The first chakra is called the Root or Base chakra and it is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with the color red.
The Root chakra governs the immune system, bones, reproductive system, knees and adrenals.
On the emotional level it is the center for flight or fight, fundamental beliefs, fears, security and survival.
When the Root chakra is out of balance it can manifest as spine and other bone problems, adrenal deficiency, anxiety, eating disorders, and financial instability. Additionally, as lack of discipline, fear of change, materialism and greed.
Some ways to heal Root chakra imbalances are:
Walking barefoot on the grass or on a sandy beach or sitting with the back against a tree to get grounded. Taking some deep and conscious breaths to return to the body. Doing squats or sitting on child’s pose.
Using essential oils such as myrrh, cedarwood, and frankincense.
Some crystals that help with grounding are: red garnet, black obsidian, hematite, and black onyx.
Foods that are grown below the ground, such as root vegetables, beets, potatoes, carrots, and any red or black color foods.
Wearing black or red clothing as color therapy.
Affirmation: I am safe and secure in my body.
This is just a brief introduction to the seven major chakras and there is so much more in understanding and healing ourselves through the chakras. Contacting a Holistic Health Practitioner and using Energy healing are powerful and effective ways of healing our body, mind and spirit.
